Saari kitchens receive esteemed Fennia Prize Honorary Mention, 15.2.2014

Design Forum Finland, an organisation promoting Finnish design, has awarded Saari kitchens a Fennia Prize Honorary Mention. The prize was given to the company’s Silta collection, which takes a bold and unique approach by combining furniture design for kitchens and other spaces. The Silta collection was designed by Harri Koskinen, while Saari kitchens were responsible for the technical design.

Pinjasto Oy Ltd., a family-owned Finnish company manufacturing Saari kitchens, won an Honorary Mention in the Fennia Prize 2014 design competition. The high-quality competition included 80 companies. The Grand Prix was given to Ponsse Plc.

Saari kitchens won the award for the Silta collection, which was launched in 2012. Silta employs a unique approach to reshaping traditional kitchen design. In the collection, the kitchen is connected to the furnishings of other rooms, forming a prominent part of the home.

“The design of the Silta collection takes the thinking in the field to a new level and gives the company a clear competitive advantage. With the Honorary Mentions, we wanted to reward companies that use design as an integral part of their business,” says Anne Veinola, the communications manager of Design Forum Finland.

The Silta collection was designed to create a series of furniture that could also be used outside the kitchen, creating a more uniform look for the different spaces in a home. For example, the back side of a living room bookshelf can function as a kitchen fitting incorporating an oven. The simple design, high-quality workmanship and materials and adaptability ensure that the products have a long lifespan. All Saari furniture is manufactured in Finland.
